Oct. 7-11 - Thankfulness

Jesus responded, "I assure you: Everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. John 8:34

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! What a sobering truth we see here in the gospel of John. The reality is that none of us are good, we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, we all deserve to face God’s righteous wrath.

This is something that we all too often forget, which is a shame because it makes us all the more thankful for what Jesus has done, our salvation! He bore the weight of our sin so that through faith in Him our sins would be wiped away and we could be reconciled to God.

So can we lose this salvation that Jesus accomplished for believers? I am thankful that the answer to that is no, and what a beautiful truth that is. This is known as the doctrine of perseverance or preservation of the saints, or by some as once saved always saved. There is unfortunately some controversy about this subject within the church, but Jesus was quite clear on the matter:

My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:26-30

How wonderful is this assurance? Jesus will not lose any of His sheep, no one is capable of stealing them away, not our current culture, not social media, not Satan, not even our own will. NO ONE can snatch them from the hands of the Father. What a comfort, today and always let us have hearts of gratitude for the finished work of Christ.

Be blessed brothers and sisters and feast on some turkey and pumpkin pie!
